My Work
I have been fortunate to work with some of the best and brightest in the industry.
Explore Michigan
Explore Michigan is the #1 ranked Michigan travel app on the App Store. (It also has an average 4.7 ⭐️ rating over 178 ratings.)
As the founder of Explore Michigan I designed, architected, and built the entire product. I also developed the business model that provides revenue to operate the business and deliver a valuable product to our users and partners.
Tech Stack
- API - Vapor web server
- Website - Static webpages that are generated when the database is updated
- iOS App - Native Swift application (UIKit, MapKit, Core Location, URLSession, ReactiveSwift)
Mad Mobile
At Mad Mobile I was responsible for leading the MenuPad iOS team.
I was hired to stabilize the application and establish a foundation.
Big Nerd Ranch
Fast Food Application
Most of my time at Big Nerd Ranch was spent working for a large fast-food company.
Accessibility Overhaul
I had the opportunity to lead an initiative to reimagine the accessibility of an app for a top fast food company. This was some of the most important work I have done in my career.
I started by performing an audit of accessibility in the app. In order to work within time and budget constraints, I identified a few key flows in the app and methodically worked through each view making the flow intuitive to use via VoiceOver.
I was proud of this work and it lead to the most satisfying feedback I have ever received.
From the client:
[The chairman of the board] was sent an email the other day by a blind man who was blown away by the accessibility features in the [fast food ordering] app. He was able to place a delivery order completely by himself which is something he is unable to do in other restaurant apps. He was really thankful for the time and work that went into adding these features that was able to give him just a little more agency in his life.
App Audit
I was assigned to an app audit for an event invitation iOS app.
I was able to identify and resolve an issue that cut build times in half.
Black Pixel
At Black Pixel I worked on various projects, but my favorite was leading the team responsible for reviving Kaleidoscope.
It was a challenging project mainly due to the age of the codebase and the intermittent maintenance it had received in recent year. The app was originally written around 2006 - before ARC was a thing.
We were able to update the codebase and publish three releases before the company sold the app to leitmotif.
